2022 at W Hurst & Son
It has been a fantastic year for us here at W Hurst & Son. Here is a quick re-cap of some of our highlights from the last 12 months.
In June we celebrated our heritage alongside the platinum jubilee with a leaflet distributed in the local ‘observer’ newspaper. We also had video footage of our foundry workers in action in the 1950's playing in store and a heritage window display.
On Sunday the 14th of August several members of staff and took part in the first ever Hurst Charity Cycle ride to raise money for the Isle of Wight Heart care club. We were joined by members of the Isle Of Wight Heart Care Club and cycled from our Newport branch to every one of our branches, which was a total of almost 60 miles. We took in the amazing views of military road and the challenging hills of Ventnor to raise over £3800 for an amazing local charity.
We were very proud this year to have had the opportunity to support a local event when we sponsored Nipper, the Isle of Wight day mascot. You may have spotted Nipper out and about as he visited all of our branches throughout the summer and took part in the Newport and Ryde carnivals with us.
At the start of December we were pleased to announce that Donation Drop Off Points for the Isle of Wight Foodbank had been placed in our Newport & Ryde Branches. The Isle of Wight Foodbank is an incredible charity that we are so happy to be able to support.
We are the first non-food retailer to have drop off points for the Foodbank, raising awareness and allowing customers to donate much needed supplies such as:
- Sponges/Scourers/Brushes/Cloths
- Dust Pan & Brush/Tea Towels
- Household Cleaning Products
- Toilet Cleaner/ Toilet Roll
- Washing Up Liquid
- Cups/Mugs/Plates/Bowls
- Peelers/Corers
- Aluminium Foil/Cling Film
- Hot Water Bottle
- Torches/Batteries
In an absolutely wonderful end to the year it was announced that W Hurst & Son had been voted, by the local community and our customers, the UK’s favourite local business.
As you can imagine we are extremely proud of this achievement and we would like to thank you all for your votes and making it happen.
